I manage a small business with 5 employees (I am one of them). Each employee (including me) earns about $50,000 a year. Unfortunately, under the new Obama tax plan, we will be hit hard because our salaries alone total $250,000. This doesn't include the operating expenses associated with running a business (rent, electricity, services, medical benefits, etc.). Our business turns a net profit, but it is not sizeable (maybe $3,000 a year). The main reason the business exists is to provide jobs for the employees. I **** to fire employees that have been doing a great job, but I cannot see any alternative. After being hit by Obama's tax we will be in the red each year. I would consider a single person who has $250,000 at their disposal to be somewhat wealthy. A business with a mere $250,000 can barely survive in today's world of inflation. It's a shame that so many American's have voted to destroy small business. Firing employees that have done a great job just isn't right. Unfortunately, I think we will have to just cut our losses and go out of business before we go into debt.

Particularly laws concerning debt collections, and waivers to agreements if the business is failing?
How are farms protected?
*rolls eyes*
There are laws designed specifically for farms and farmers, what are they? What about laws for small businesses.

My father has been hounding me and my husband (we are recently married) to buy a house in Las Vegas because prices are going down, however I don't believe that it is such a good idea. I am 25 (a student), the husband is 33 (owns a business in Canada-he's always traveling). We are debt free and have about 500K cash. Wouldn't investing our money be a better choice than buying a house at this point?

My husband & his father farm together. Just recently they changed the DBA from my father-in-law's name to my husband. So now everything is under his name. I have told him I do not want any part of it- I don't want my name on anything & I don't want any responsibility for it- I am here to support from the sidelines. He got the crop insurance switched over today & the guy wanted my social security number. Why would this be? I am not on anything to do with this business & we have no combined debt or bank accounts or anything- we have chosen to keep everything separate. So why would my SS # be of any importance. Does anyone else have any experience with anything like this? What, if any, kind of responsibility do I have here if I am not on any of the paperwork?

I can't help but feel that all it does is keep us in debt. The "Federal" Reserve is a private business that charges us money, to print money.

I have an old debt from a very small time magazine from which I purchased advertising for my now out of practice business. I only owe them around $330, and they keep sending me bills for the past year now. Can they report me to collections if they dont have my SSN? They have my name and old address, but wouldnt they need my SSN to report to my credit report?
