I need help just found out the the company that I've paid for the last year is going out of business. I always paid them their share up front and was just about to start settling my credit card debt from school. I've already invested about $2000 and now I find that last week the company filed for bankruptcy (Debt Relief USA). They stated on a machine that current account holders could get all or some of the money back but I'm skeptical. What do you think I should do to get this money back we had a deal and a contract which they are voiding. I need legal advice

Recently, my husband and I received a certified letter from the IRS that there was about $33K in unreported income on our federal tax forms for 2007 resulting in an additional tax liability of $12K for myself and my husband (who filed jointly that year). I was aware that my husband did earn the income as part of his business earnings and as such he informed me that he paid taxes on the income as part of his business tax filing. I just checked with his business partner and the partner informed to me that my husband also knew of the income but my husband never gave him the 1099 to file as part of the 2007 business tax filing. The question is then this: Can I file (and do you think that I would be granted) a Innocent Spouse Tax Relief claim from the IRS due to my situation. I have a good job and have the maximum in taxes taken out of my paycheck but it always seems that I am supporting my husband's delinquent tax debt however we have separate finances and I pay most of the household bills.

Mortgage banking meltdown: There's no valid reason but that America's corporate politicians are subservient to Wall street and the super rich.
The Bush administration on Friday announced plans for a massive and unprecedented federal bailout of the US banking system. In separate appearances Friday morning, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and President Bush announced a series of measures to shore up collapsing financial markets and called on Congress to pass legislation next week to use, in Paulson’s words, “hundreds of billions” of taxpayer dollars to buy virtually worthless mortgage-backed assets that cannot be sold on the market from banks and other financial institutions.
Paulson said he would meet over the weekend with congressional leaders to lay out the details of the government plan.
With this plan, the full cost of the immense debts piled up by the banks will be imposed on the American people. It will shift the banks’ liabilities onto the federal government, sharply increasing government budget deficits and the US debt, a process that can only further erode the creditworthiness of the United States and place a bigger question mark on the value of the US dollar.
The immediate line-up of both parties and the media behind the bailout plan for Wall Street stands in the starkest contrast to their indifference and inaction in regard to the plight of millions of American working people, who face a rising tide of home foreclosures, layoffs and sinking living standards. When it comes to the social needs of the people, the universal cry from corporate America and the two parties is, “There is no money,” but when the fortunes of the financial elite are threatened, the full power of the government and unlimited resources are marshaled virtually at a moment’s notice.
There was no suggestion in the statements of Bush and Paulson of any relief for the working class—nothing to stop home foreclosures or help those who have already lost their homes. Rather, hundreds of billions—and more likely trillions—of dollars in public funds will be used to prop up the banks.
The resulting bankrupting of the government will be used to justify a brutal assault on what remains of social programs, including Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security, and demand even greater financial “sacrifices” from workers, whether the next administration is headed by Obama or McCain. Nothing could more clearly demonstrate that behind the façade of American democracy there stands a dictatorship of big business.
In his statement, Paulson said “comprehensive” action was needed “to address the root cause of our financial system stresses. The underlying weakness in our financial system today is illiquid mortgage assets that have lost value as the housing correction has proceeded.”
This is a lie. The root cause of the crisis is the unbridled parasitism of American capitalism, which over a period of decades has dismantled huge sections of industry in order to reap super profits for the rich by means of financial speculation and fraud, based on a colossal buildup of debt. Now the bill is being passed to the American people.
Bush, flanked by Paulson, Bernanke and Cox, called for a government bailout of Wall Street in the name of “our system of free enterprise.”
“There will be ample opportunity to debate the origins of this problem,” he said. “Now is the time to solve it.”
There will, in fact, be no debate or discussion. Nobody will be held accountable for the greatest financial scandal in world history. There will be no penalties. No one who made tens and hundreds of millions from the plundering of America will be forced to give back a dime.
All of the financial resources of the United States are being placed at the disposal of Wall Street and every American citizen, without being asked, is being given the responsibility for covering the debts of the richest people in the country.

I think the money that will be used for addition GI Bill benefits, extented unemployment for returning troops, and for relief efforts for the midwest flooding are a good go. But, as far as more money to keep pumping into Iraq to help "build up" their country and their infastructure is a big, big NO!!! American tax payers have had the burden of paying to build up a country who has not given anything back and refuse to help them selves. This is just another reason why America is in economic trouble…we care taking care of another country! Iraq produces 200 million barrels of oil a day. A barrel of oil is selling for $134. You do the math on how much money that country makes every day. Does America get anything back, besides a bigger national debt. NO!!! Here is a suggestion to D.C. If you want to run up the national debt and put a burden on American tax payers, how about doing it for "OUR" country. Would you spend money on someone elses business and neglect your own business!
My partner has received a Petition for Divorce from his ex wife, she cheated on him just after 1 year of marriage, so they separated and about 2 years later we moved in together, it is now 5 years since their separation, they had no children. I have 2 children that both myself and my partner support although he isn't their birth dad. Anyway she is still with the guy that she committed adultery with and made it clear she wanted a divorce at no cost to my partner, the petition has come through and it seems like she is going to try and get financial gain from my partner. They already sold the house when separated and the proceeds were split 50/50 as were any items from the house, if anything my partner came away worse off with about £15,000 of debts but the problem was he had the loan through a family member with no legal contract. With that debt and the fact that my partner's self employed business failed last year and he was out of work for a while and had to take a 50% paycut when accepting a full time employed job we are now £35,000 in debt as a couple, unfortunately the legalaid scheme only takes income into account so we don't qualify for help and we don't know what to do as havn't got any money to pay for a solicitor, we really don't want to add to our £35K debt … we have struggled so much in the last year not to go bankrupt and to keep our house and so far we have succeeded and have been slowly paying back our debts … its now such a kick in the teeth that this has come up and we don't know what to do. We don't understand what the petition means so any advice on it would be helpful, he is supposed to have it signed and back at the courts by the weekend. The section we are concerned about is the 'Prayer' it states under 'Ancillary Relief' for the petitioner (his ex) – an order for maintenance pending suit – a periodical payments order – a secured provision order – a lump sum order – a property adjustment order – an order under section 24B, 25B or 25C of the Act of 1973 (pension sharing/attachment order) I've been told by others that have had divorces that if she accepted everything had been finalised financially it would be stated in the petition. So is she lying to us in person and does this divorce look like she is looking for money from us?
There was no contract drawn up at time of separation, although I did see a letter after they sold the house from the solicitors saying the proceeds from the sale money had been split in final settlement so I'm praying we can get a copy from the solicitors as I've searched for it and can't locate it (we've moved house since I saw it) They never planned to have children so she worked full time whilst they were married, so just hoping there isn't much she can claim for with those circumstances. Will they take our debts into consideration whilst deciding whether to award her with anything? Surely if its likely to send us bankrupt and leave us & 2 children homeless it wouldn't be in the courts interest to award her anything.
When I got home from the music shop today, my mom told me that she wanted to have a talk. I sat on the couch, and she sat across the room from me and started sobbing. She started talking about how she wanted to help my sister and I out with getting a car, but she couldn't. She explained to my why she couldn't, I don't fully understand it… but she has 2 million dollars in debt because of my dad and HIS business. ( my dad buys homes and rents them out. he has about 10 homes right now, which explains why she has debt. ) My mom shouldn't have any of this debt on her, mainly because it was my dad's business. you know. anyway, before the court hearing, my dad told my mom that if she tried to get any financial relief that he would convince them that she is mentally unstable and that she would not have any contact with her kids. Because of the 2 million dollars of debt, she can't help us… which is irrelevant to me, because I don't really want her to help me financially. Anyway, that's one of the things she told me. Next, this one really makes me mad, like I feel like I could kick my dad's *** over this. We were getting ready to move, and we had this dog that we've had in the family for easily eight years. He told my mom that we could only move if we got rid of the dog. My mom agreed, even though her, being the immigrant from England with no one here for her, and the dog being her only friend. My dad didn't take the dog to the pound… he got the dog euthanized. He killed the family dog of eight years. Then told us that the dog was sick…. He also took another one of our pets to the pound. Even though the cat had no problem with living with us, we loved them to death… he got rid of her. This is only part of the story. He's also always called my mom mentally incompetent, and has always been oppressing her.
More on My mom told me today about some of the things my dad has done to her?
The current ~$700Billion plan looks a lot like Government is bailing out its buddies in BIG BUSINESS, and nothing will ever trickle down to the common U.S. Citizen. To turn that around use the leftover ~$300Billion Bush Administration bail-out plus President Elect Obama's $825Billion to pay the Mortgage industry (the cost of processing the loan) to alter an process every U.S. Citizens primary residence mortgage decreasing it by ~20% and refinance that amount at the current Fed bank-to-bank trading rate. Banks are writing down all these mortgages/loans anyway because of decreasing values. Yes, these institution have some medicine to take, but there are hard times ahead, and the majority (U.S. Citizens) need to feel support.
